15.16 MAXIMUM DISTANCE TIME (XDT)
15.16.1 Competitors will attempt to achieve a mark or valid track point far away from the reference point, within a maximum set time.
15.16.2 Task data:
a. maximum set time
b. arrangements for timing
c. reference point
15.16.3 The result is the distance from the mark or furthest valid track point to the reference point. Greatest result is best.
15.16.4 (see section IV events with observers)
A maximum distance time is the opposite of a Minimum Distance Time. Competitors are given a reference point and a time limit, and then told to achieve a mark as far from the reference point as possible. There is no minimum time, because the competitor typically wants to increase their distance using time.
This task is typically a virtual task in modern ballooning, although it could theoretically be a physical one.
Because this is another virtual/arbitrary task, enjoy another balloon picture.
Task data:
maximum set time
This tells the maximum time that the pilots are allowed to let elapse before making their scoring mark to be measured to the reference point.
arrangements for timing
This tells the pilot the parameters around timing. For example, if the above tells them that the timing is 10 minutes, then this tells them when that 10 minutes starts.
reference point
This tells the pilots what they will be measured to. When they place a scoring mark, it is measured in reference to this point.
