15.20 3D Shape Task (3DT)
15.20.1 Competitors will attempt to achieve the greatest distance within a set airspace.
15.20.2 Task data:
a. description of set airspace(s).
15.20.3 The result is the accumulated horizontal distance between valid track points in the set airspace(s). Greatest result is best
The 3D-Shape Task is an entirely virtual task. It relies on track points, which track the pilot's location at 1-second intervals. Track points are always recorded during a flight, so the track points chosen are chosen after the pilot crosses into valid airspace.
The goal of the 3D shape task is to achieve the maximum horizontal distance in a set airspace. This horizontal distance is measured as the accumulated total distance between each individual track point.
A common configuration of the 3D shape task is the Donut (eat the donut... IYKYK). The donut is characterized by an inner and outer ring, as shown in the image. The pilot must fly in the airspace in between the two rings, shown by the shaded portion of the picture (the edible part of the donut). The pilot to fly through the greatest distance within this donut wins.

description of set airspace(s).
This tells the pilot what region is valid to score in. It defines the start and ending zones of the 3D shape.
